Look through the Eyes of YFC. Tacoma Youth for Christ Foster Care is a private agency licensed by the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) in Washington State to provide temporary or permanent out of home care for children and youth, ages 0-18 years.
Tacoma Youth for Christ seeks to certify Christian families committed to caring for children that have been removed from their home due to neglect, abandonment, and/or physical and sexual abuse. Children and Family Services, in conjunction with DSHS, refers each child that is placed in a Youth for Christ foster home.
While in foster care, each child continues to remain under the jurisdiction of the State of Washington. While the child(ren) are in a Youth for Christ foster home, we act as a liaison with various agencies involved in the child's case. Youth for Christ Foster Care services include: supporting and training our foster families, referring families and children to appropriate services, supervising visits between the birth parents and the foster children and maintaining regular contact with the foster parents and children. YFC also attends court for each child and supports foster parents as they navigate through the DSHS system. YFC provides our foster families monthly opportunities to meet and interact with each other through trainings and support groups.
YFC provides foster families the opportunity to care for children in a variety of ways. The continum of care includes: respite care (from 1-7 days - designed to give our current families support), short - term care (from 1-3 months), long-term care (3 months to several years), and foster/ adopt (designed for families interested in adopting children through DSHS and who desire to have permanent legal custody).
Licsensed foster parents receive a monthly subsidy from the State of Washington for each child's room, board, and clothing needs. Each child also receives medical and dental coverage.
