Juvenile Justice Ministry

The Mission:

To share the Gospel with youth in the Juvenile Justice System of Pierce County, walk with them as they grow in their relationships with Christ, and help support them holistically as they enter back into the community.

“The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners." Isaiah 61:1
What is JJM?

Remann Hall, Pierce County Juvenile Court: We are in Remann Hall four times a week offering chapel services, small group bible studies, one on one counseling, and life skills classes to detained youth. Volunteers are committed to weekly involvement with youth at Remann Hall. Our volunteers work with the probation department to mentor youth upon their release back to the community. YFC has been working with youth in Remann Hall for over 30 years.

JRA, Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration: We mentor kids who are serving their sentences at one of the JRA facilities in Washington State. Mentors call or write their mentee weekly, in addition to visiting them once a month. Mentors prepare youth to re-enter their community and continue in their relationships with Christ.

Alternative Schools: We provide mentors and tutors for youth at local alternative schools. This is a great way to follow up with youth we have met in Remann Hall, as they take steps towards continuing their education.

Pierce County Jail: We visit youth who have been arrested and sent directly to Pierce County Jail on more serious charges. We also visit young adults who we met as juveniles in Remann Hall. This is an amazing opportunity to continue to connect with youth & young adults our team has been working with.

Neighboring County Juvenile Detention Centers: We visit youth from Pierce County who are detained in Neighboring County facilities. This is especially helpful to follow up with teen girls involved in prostitution.

YFC’s City Life Ministry: We work with City Life to provide holistic resources for youth as they re enter the community and continue in their relationships with Christ. Many of our staff serve in City Life programs to reach youth before they ever get to Remann Hall.
