Darrin Miller

City Life Ministry Director

Both Darrin and his wife Sue attended West Point and graduated in 1989 and entered active duty as officers. They were married three days after graduating. Neither one of them had grown up in Christian homes or knew much about a personal relationship with Christ. Both of them had grown up in unhealthy homes as kids and brought much of that into their early years of marriage. They were assigned to Fort Lewis, Washington in April of 1994 at the same time they were expecting the birth of the first child. Darrin deployed to Haiti in September of 1994 just after the birth of Allyson Ti Miller. During his time away, Sue was ministered to by some neighbor ladies and received Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and immediately began to pursue Christ. Her outlook on life changed and she was secure in God for the first time in her life. She began attending church and growing in Christ. Once Darrin returned from Haiti, he was opposed to Sue’s new found faith and wanted little to do with the church and her zeal. She continued to be faithful to what God had cemented in her heart and pursue Christ. After months of resistance, Darrin finally decided to attend church with her and Allyson. He enjoyed the service and began attending each week but resisted anything else. Finally one Sunday afternoon, after church, he asked Sue what it meant to be a Christian and she led him to Christ. He immediately repented and received Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior. God had been working this in his life for years, and he finally responded in May of 1995.

In October 1998, he resigned his commission and left the military. He began attending seminary and working as the youth pastor of his church as well as being the area director for a para-church ministry. After three years of ministry, as newer believers, they decided as a family that God was moving them into the business arena. Darrin entered the sales and marketing arena for the next four years until the company he was working for went out of business. He continued to work with young people and ministry at his church during this time. As he was looking for what God had next, Darrin found Youth for Christ and began as the Youth Guidance Director (which is now the JJM Director) in February 2005.

His mission as the City Life and JJM Director has been to reach at-risk youth in the juvenile detention centers in Pierce County and beyond with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This has evolved into ministering to urban youth throughout the downtown, eastside and hilltop communities in Tacoma. Beginning in January, 2008- Darrin begins splitting his time as the City Life Director with time as the JJM Director. He continues to be responsible for oversight of the Juvenile Justice Ministry, but adds officially the responsibility of the downtown, Hilltop and Eastside communities along with the campuses located in those areas. This is exciting and he looks forward to reaching urban kids in need of the truth, hope, love and peace of Jesus Christ. He believes that this next generation of youth will be used by God to change the world; especially the often times forgotten youth in the cities and jails of this country.

Darrin and Sue now have three children, Allyson, Samantha and Ezra and live in Tacoma.
